Sanitary Sewer Utility

The Sewer utility operates a 16 million gallon per day (MGD) advanced wastewater treatment plant. The highly purified wastewater flows into the Rockaway River where bio-solids are removed, dewatered and incinerated on site. The multiple hearth sludge incinerator has state of the art air pollution control and monitoring equipment on the exhaust to ensure that the health and safety of residents is protected. The Sewer Treatment Plant operates under permits issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The treatment plant complies with all pollution control permits. Septic tank waste, sewage sludge and gray water are accepted from the area.

In order to collect the wastewater from area homes, businesses and industries, the Sewer Utility owns and maintains a system of pumping stations, sewer laterals and sewer interceptors that collect the wastewater and transport it to the treatment plant. The Parsippany SewerTreatment Plant is under state mandate to treat wastewater from portions of Denville, Mountain Lakes, East Hanover, Montville and a portion of Denville.

The Sewer Utility develops plans and programs for the extension and improvement of public sewer services in the Township.
