West Nile Virus

As of April 17, 2008, ill and dead crows and blue jays will be collected for State testing to help in tracking West Nile Virus.  Any ill or dead crows and blue jays should be reported to the Health Office at 973-263-7160.  On weekends and holidays, contact the Parsippany Police Department at 973-263-4300.

West Nile Virus has not been eradicated, and is spread by the bite of mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes need standing water to breed, therefore, any standing water that we can eliminate around our homes will greatly reduce the risk of mosquito bites.

Sources of standing water around our homes are:  gutters, wheelbarrows, buckets, children’s toys, pools (unless chlorinated), pool covers, flower pot dishes, etc.

Repair all screen doors and windows, and use mosquito repellent on clothing and exposed skin (in accordance with labeling instructions).
