Posted June 07, 2023Air Quality Alert Due to Canadian Wildfires in Effect Until Midnight Thursday; Outdoor Programming Cancellation
Parsippany, N.J. June 7, 2023 – The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (“NJDEP”) has issued a Code Red Air Quality Action Day across New Jersey for fine particulates, until midnight Thursday, June 8, 2023.
Smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to impair air quality throughout New Jersey, including the Township of Parsippany – Troy Hills (The “Township”), and residents are urged to stay indoors if possible. All Township fields, tennis courts and basketball courts are closed, and outdoor programming is cancelled today.
Some members of the general public may experience health effects, while members of sensitive groups, including those with heart or lung disease, the elderly, and the young, may experience more serious health effects. All individuals should limit strenuous activities and the amount of time active outdoors.
To protect yourself from the current poor air quality, the NJDEP advises:
- Staying indoors as much as possible.
- Keeping your windows closed.
- Using an air purifier if possible.
- If you must go outside, limit your physical activity and wear a mask for any extended period of exposure.
