ELECTRICAL APPRENTICE (HELPER) - SEWER UTILITY
Department: Sewer Utility
Workweek: Monday through Friday 7:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M., plus off hours scheduled or emergency callout work, if required. Must be available for emergencies 24 hours a day and have a telephone to be contacted as needed.
Wage: Per Ordinance – White Collar, Non-Exempt

Skills / Duties: Under direct supervision, this position assists an electrician and develops a working knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, practices, occupational hazards, and safety precautions involved in electrical and general maintenance work. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to; inspecting, testing, repairing and installing wiring, fixtures, motors, generators, pump motors, power circuits, and controllers. Knowledge of basic operations of personal computers for the processing of emails, memos, work orders, and general record keeping is required. This position must have an understanding of various motors, electrical systems and components of pumps and equipment and how they operate.
The ability to read and use technical manuals, specifications, diagrams, schematics and similar guides to make repairs to electrical equipment, discuss operations of equipment with operators in order to diagnose problems and make needed adjustments and repairs is required. Understand, remember and carry out oral and written instructions.
Candidate must be capable of using various tools and equipment, including hand tools, air tools, ladders, and lifts. This position will require the ability to lift 75 pounds and climb a 40-foot ladder, and the ability to work in an elevated bucket.
Candidate must possess a current valid NJ Driver License. An electrician’s license is not required, but the individual will be strongly encouraged to work towards the goal of fulfilling the necessary requirements, including evening courses, needed to obtain a NJ Electrical License.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English.
