Senior Exercise Classes
Come join the fitness classes for Older Adults at the Parsippany Community Center Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. These are well-rounded exercise programs to improve your overall fitness and well-being. Each class is taught by a certified fitness instructor specializing in older adult fitness. There is a fee of $3 per class. Comfortable clothing and sneakers with good support a must. Fitness class schedules are available at the center. Call the Office On Aging 973-263-7351.
Exercise Room
The exercise room is open to all Parsippany Seniors free of charge. A physician’s release form and waiver must be completed in order to use the equipment: treadmills, exercise bicycles and steppers. The exercise room is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Call the Office On Aging 973-263-7351 or 973-263-7352 for the release forms.
State Health Insurance Program (SHIP)
Assistance and explanations of health insurance to supplement Medicare and Medicare Part D - RX plans is available by appointment only. Call the Office On Aging at 973-263-7351 or 973-263-7352 for an appointment to meet with a SHIP Counselor.
Conversational English
Group Conversational English Classes are offered every Monday and Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in the downstairs conference room at the Parsippany Community Center with instructor Ann Fong.
PAAD (Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled) & Senior Gold Prescription Discount Program
PAAD and Senior Gold are both state-funded prescription programs, which help eligible New Jersey residents with the cost of prescribed medication. If you are eligible for PAAD, you may also be eligible to receive other benefits, for example, Lifeline which provides assistance for utility bills, Hearing Aid Assistance to the Aged and Disabled, reduced motor vehicle fees, and the property tax freeze. Reduced Fare Bus Booklets
For seniors 62 years of age and older and persons with disabilities. Reduced Fare Bus Booklets are available at the Office On Aging. Seniors must show a proof of age document. Disabled persons must show proper identification.
Disabled Person Placard
Disabled Person Parking Privilege Applications are available at the Office On Aging. One side of the application must be completed by a medical doctor, podiatrist or chiropractor.
Living Wills
The Office On Aging has "Combined Advance Directive For Health Care" forms available. In completing part one of the directive you will designate an individual you trust to act as your legally recognized health care representative to make health care decisions for you in the event you are unable to make decisions for yourself. In part two you will provide instructions concerning your health care preferences.
Nutrition Site/Meals On Wheels
The Morris County Nutrition Project located at Parsippany Community Center, 1130 Knoll Road in Lake Hiawatha provides a mid-day meal and the opportunity to socialize with others. Home delivered meals are available for the homebound. Monthly menus are available at the Parsippany Community Center. For reservations please call Joanne Shanley, Site Manager at 973-884-1868 one day in advance. Call 973-285-6856 for home delivery.
Food Pantry
The Parsippany Emergency Food Pantry is located at the Parsippany Community Center at 1130 Knoll Road, Lake Hiawatha and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donations of non- perishable food items are always needed. Any resident in need of supplemental food are invited to call ahead 973-263-7163, 973-263-7351 or 973-263-7352. Ready-made bags of basic food staples such as canned goods, cereal and dried food, are available through donations from individuals, schools, scouts and churches.
Senior Clubs
Many of Parsippany’s senior citizen clubs meet at the Parsippany Community Center. Contact the Office On Aging for information about the clubs and when they meet. Each club offers group trips that are open to all seniors. Trip information is posted at the center.

Child Health, Preventive Healthcare & Immunizations
Must be uninsured and a resident of Parsippany, Ages 2 months to 5 years. For further information, call the Health Department at 973-263-7160.
Wheelchairs, Walkers, Canes
Equipment for the disabled such as wheelchairs, walkers and canes are available for long-term or short-term use from the Office On Aging. Please call to verify availability and to reserve equipment at 973-263-7351 or 973-263-7352.
Medical Transportation
Transportation services are available for senior residents of Parsippany who have no other means of transportation or family members to service them. Medical appointments receive top priority. Please call at least one week in advance to 973-263-7351 or 973-263-7352. Persons must be ambulatory. Wheelchair patients may call the Health Department at 973-263-7160. An aide or family member must accompany patient in a wheelchair.
Lending Library
A large assortment of hard cover and paperback books are available for senior residents to borrow. There is no time limit restriction. All we ask is that you return the book to the center. Donations of books in good condition are always welcome.
Recreational Opportunities
Opportunities for recreation and socialization are available weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the community center. Activities include:

Food Stamps
Food Stamp Program is available through the Morris County Department of Temporary Assistance. Call 973-326-7800 for information.
Medicare
Medicare is a federally administered health insurance program for senior citizens providing payment for approximately 40% of the average medical expenses. Call 800-633-4227 for information.
Social Security Administration
Social Security is a federal insurance program that provides income security to the elderly and people with disabilities. For information, call 800-772-1213.
Friendly Visitor Program
This program matches volunteers with lonely, isolated persons or disabled persons. The once a week visits can include such activities as playing cards or games, sharing a hobby, taking walks and spending time in conversation. All volunteers and clients are screened. Telephone Reassurance Program
A daily phone call can connect a lonely, isolated person with the outside world. It can bring the recipient and the family peace of mind knowing someone is checking on the safety and well being of their loved ones. In addition, the volunteers provide a “friendly ear” and are trained to detect changes in the mental or physical condition. Volunteers are screened and trained in emergency procedures. JVS Caregiving Companions
JVS At Home Services is a division of the Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest. It is a non-profit, nonsectarian agency meeting the needs of New Jersey residents since 1939. They provide help with non-medical tasks such as:

- Housekeeping
- Light laundry
- Meals
- Shopping

JVS Home Maintenance Solutions
Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest provides skilled workers at a modest fee to perform a wide variety of simple home maintenance services. For information on this nonsectarian program, call 973-674-2415, ext. 294.
Tax Assistance for Parsippany Seniors
Free tax assistance is available to all Parsippany Senior Citizens and low income or disabled persons by experienced and trained AARP-IRS Tax Aides every Tuesday during February through April. Please call 973-263-7351 or 973-263-7352 for an appointment.
Emergency Medical Services
